Statistics Consultancy and Training

Welcome image

The collection, analysis and interpretation of data is increasingly important in research and decision-making. Yet many academics, researchers and managers still lack confidence in statistical techniques, and research teams do not always have in-house access to a specialist statistician.

I offer discrete, responsive, professional, tailored support to companies, organisations and individuals who feel they need expert advice:

  • Statistical consultancy. As part of your research team, with you every step of the way from bid writing, data collection, statistical analysis and write-up for publication.

  • Training. Effective in-house training, based on tried and tested approaches but tailored to your company's specific needs.

  • Coaching.  Totally confidential, relaxed, target-orientated support to individual professionals who have identified the need to step up their confidence in statistics and quantitative methods.

If this sounds like what you might need, please browse this website to find out more. And then get in touch for a chat to see how we can take things forward together.
After a 30 year career lecturing mathematics and statistics - most recently as Head of Learning Development at a university in the east of England - I set up as an independent freelance consultant in 2014.

When working full-time in higher education, my main focus was supporting staff and students across the university with statistical methods for their research projects, in a range of subject areas that included Radiography, Nursing, Health Studies, Bioscience, Psychology, Sociology and Business. This breadth of experience has given me insight into the needs and interests of a range of clients today. I think I can speak your language!

I am a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. For eight years I was elected Chair of the UK sigma Network for Excellence in cross-university Mathematics and Statistics Support. I hold an honorary senior lectureship at the University of Essex, and am Visiting Fellow in Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Suffolk. This breadth of professional recognition and experience contributes to the continual development of my consultancy and training portfolio.

My fees are calculated on the basis of  £120 per hour, or £700 per day. (Valid to 31st December 2024).

In practice, for consultancy and training, clients usually prefer that I discuss their needs and quote for a complete package, rather than bill by the hour.

I am always willing to consider giving favourable rates to charities and other non-profit community groups.

The initial discussion of your needs, and how we might work together, will always be free of charge.
